Working remotely at the beach this winter is a great way to invoke a fresh start for the new year and set intentions for an exciting and productive year. Designate a workspace

When you arrive and unpack, set up a designated workspace in the home where you can get your work done. This should be separate from the bed or couch since it can be easy to fall into a slump. It’s easier to stay focused when you have a specific spot to work. Be sure to try and pick a space that allows for natural light and has a background you’re okay with being visible on a video call.

Maintain a routine

We typically thrive on structure, so make a schedule and stick to it. Try to wake up at the same time every day, log off at the same time every night, and treat weeknights just like you did before. This will help you maintain balance and keep your mental health in check too.

Take regular breaks

One of our favorite tips for working remote in the winter is to take regular breaks. Yes, regular breaks! It’s easy to lose track of time when working from home since you aren’t chatting with coworkers or going to the break room for another cup of coffee. Take a few minutes each hour to look away from the screen, get up, and stretch your legs.

Stay connected with colleagues

When working remote, we miss out on the human interaction aspect of working in an office, so it’s important to stay connected with colleagues as much as possible. Outlets like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and even virtual happy hours on Zoom can help fight isolation.

Schedule activities

Once the workday is over, it’s time to schedule some activities! Fortunately, there are many fun things to do in Destin that will help you easily transition into after hours mode. Go for a walk down to Captain Leonard Destin Park for a change of scenery (and a beautiful sunset), or head to a nearby restaurant like Harbor Docks or Boshamps for dinner. Be sure to schedule some activities on the weekend too so that you can make the most of your time working remote in Destin.
