Our Unique History in Destin

The Cottages by the Bay is a special property. If you’ve made memories at one of our Cottages, you know what a fantastic, unique atmosphere the area has. Did you know that the Cottages by the Bay have a rich history? These Cottages began their story in the early 1900’s. Dive in to our unique history in Destin!

Each of the Cottages you see today has been carefully renovated and restored. Check out one of the “before” photos of Love Letter above. The transformations are incredible! To begin, Something Blue was first built in 1952 for a family home. Later, the property owner added Better Together, Peace and Tranquility to use as rental properties. Eventually, the property changed hands and featured a barbecue pit. When we began to restore the Cottages by the Bay, part of this gorgeous property was used as storage.

Additionally, on the Sibert Avenue side, Love Letter went up in 1935. We were lucky to be able to restore unique features such as the ceilings in this Cottage. Next up, Humble & Kind hit the scene in 1963 and we polished up the original hardwoods and unique tongue and groove pine walls. Currently, our newest and first two-story Cottage, At Last, is under construction. We are excited to receive guests here as of July 2020.

It’s a great way to learn how the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” became a well-known vacation spot. This museum is located near the Cottages and some fantastic dining, shopping and activities in Destin, too.
